Last time I tested clean the bike navigation in Google Maps for the iPhone in December 2012 was the best option to choose the car that vehicles in the app. If you then chose the bicycle became routes suggested weird illogical detour. It could not combine smart choices for cycling. Does the application have been better in 2013? I'm testing on me partly unknown route from Hässelby residential area to an industrial Järfälla. I choose clean a route proposal which goes straight through a maze of completely unstructured bike lanes in residential district. I have headphones in my ears so I can hear the voice navigation, and my iPhone is in a really good bike mount from Kjell & Co. A good mount for the phone on the handlebars is a prerequisite. I get up three decent draft, and select the option where I have at least local knowledge to get a real-world test. The alternative routes are visible as gray lines.
I get regular voice navigation in the headphones. It works pretty well, possibly, the last reminder of the swing a little too early when it is tight between the intersections. I feel that the app gives a decent route, although some sections may be fine-tuned. The app recalculates the route pretty clean well, that is if I temporarily choose another partial path than the app's suggestions, or make a wrong turn, adjusts the navigator and presents a new custom route. The app can combine both bike lanes, road and trails with gravel for a good route. clean I'm testing on my regular bike route, from downtown to Hässelby. Here it comes up some significant abnormalities, clean which can cause problems for the cycling leg the first time. There may be extra unfortunate for anyone who is visiting clean Stockholm and uses the bike. Google chooses the sidewalk instead of the bike path along Norrmälarstrand, and on towards Tranebergsbron. Blue line is Google maps route. Red line is the bike path in the real world that I have drawn on the screenshot.
Top Navigation with Google maps app in December 2013 version has improved, it is possible to get a decent direction when you want to cycle the new unknown routes. With the phone mount on the handlebars, a little common sense and their own conclusions, it is an ideal means to ride unfamiliar new routes. But it can still be much better. I would like to see - Possibility to weigh in topography / contours of the route, thus eg avoid unnecessary up and down hills on the bike-has a heavy load on the bike. - Users' real-made bicycle routes can be used to generate smart suggestions on bike routes. - Users can edit and add routes, and add / edit your own voice commands. - Users can rate and share various cycle routes. It would also be smart about - data about users' actual routes can be collected and used to traffic for cyclists, research on cycling needs. Other features in the app there is a correction function if you shake the phone. It can be a bit disturbing if the phone is in the grip on the handlebars, and a dialog box comes up accidentally and obscuring the map. This feature can be turned off. Good to the screen does not go out anymore. In previous versions you had to poke a little on the screen at regular intervals that it would not go off. Comments from FB and twitter
Ingemar Reverse read the blog, as readable as before. In terms of navigation I lack the ability to choose bike paths where even three-wheeled cargo bikes arrive without having to lead the cycle past the speed barriers at crossings / overpasses. It is in and proceeded not navigeringsapparnas wrong without more traffic planners' ... I myself am right sick of getting lost in my own hometown illogical cycle network.
